Bree reflects on her stay with us as language assistant
During my time as a language assistant here at IES Complutense, I have been fortunate enough to work in a wide range of classes with diverse and unique groups of students. I work with students all the way from 1st of ESO to 1st of Bachillerato. I have really enjoyed working with both of the groups from the program and also the bilingual section! The students have taught me just as much, if not more, than I have taught them. It has been such a unique experience and has made me not only a better teacher, but also a better person.
I have been at IES Complutense for just about two whole academic years now. Unfortunately, I was not able to see my first year out in person, as we finished the year from home. However, I was so amazed at all the efforts made by teachers and students during this uncertain, quick change to online classes. When we started another school year in September, I was nervous to see how everything would be. Would the regulations be sufficient? Would it be safe? Would people be responsible? I was very worried to be honest. I was dreading the return and thought that we would be back at home by Christmas at the latest. However, to my surprise, we have persevered and here we are – finishing the school year with in-person classes. Yet again, I was astonished by students and staff as they came together to make the best of this unique situation. It was been a wonderful school year and I am sad to see it coming to an end.
I am very grateful to have been placed at such an incredible school and take part in so many learning and teaching opportunities. The relationships I have formed with the students and staff have been nothing short of rewarding! I will definitely miss everyone at the school as I have to leave the following year. I am not certain what lies ahead for me, but I do know that IES Complutense will always have a special place in my heart!
